Hebron is the largest governate in the Palestine in terms of both area and population, with a population of approximately one million and an area of 997 square kilometers, representing about 16% of the total West Bank territory.
Hebron holds significant economic importance, being one of the largest economic centers in Palestine. Additionally, it has great religious importance, as the city›s heart is home to the Ibrahimi Mosque, which contains the tombs of the prophets Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their wives, as well as the tomb of Prophet Joseph, peace be upon them.
The city is currently divided into the old and modern parts, with the old city located next to the Ibrahimi Mosque. The old city consists of narrow alleys, old houses, and shops known as «Qasaba Market, » similar to many cities in Palestine and the Islamic world. The old city also contains many markets, but the occupation has deliberately closed large parts of them, controlling .about 20% of the city's area and allowing settlers to cause disruptions
Hebron suffers from a lack of adequate medical services. According to a 2022 statistic, the number of hospital beds compared to the population is equivalent to only 1.3 beds per 1,000 people, highlighting a significant shortage in healthcare services.
